GENERAL INFO:

The purpose of this project was to convert an existing manufacturing plant into an Operations Center for Honeywell Aerospace in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The project was designed to be built in 4 separate phases during a span of 3 years to accommodate Honeywell’s expansion plan and avoiding business interruption.

The program incorporates office spaces, operations monitoring areas, training rooms, highly specialized laboratories, clean rooms, collaboration areas, and a cafeteria with a dining area that seats 280 persons. The entire facility accommodates approximately 1,200 employees and provides 600 parking spaces. During the pre-design phase an extensive life safety (IBC & NFPA), seismic, and ADA compliance review of the existing facilities was made to determine the capacity of assembly areas and asses the need for structural reinforcement, additional exit stairs, exit doors, fire sprinklers, and fire alarm devises for the proposed uses.  Also, the project required an extensive retrofit effort which included a combination of re-lamping, illumination controls and daylight design, mechanical systems fine tuning, and a photovoltaic panels system that afforded a 40% energy savings from the initial baseline.
