ENVIRONMENTAL AGENCIES BUILDING
ADS
YEAR: 2007
LOCATION: SAN JUAN, PR
SIZE: 300,000 SF
GENERAL INFO:
The project’s purpose was to consolidate the operations of 3 Environmental agencies (1- Puerto Rico’s Department of Natural and Environmental Resources, 2- Puerto Rico Solid Waste Management Authority and 3- Puerto Rico Environmental Quality Board) into a recently built 9 story, 300,000ft building. The project began with the preparation of a report that summarized the programmatic needs of the three agencies, a strategy to move them into the building, and a high-level opinion of probable cost. Later, a code-compliance Survey of the building was performed, that lead to ac omprehensive building retrofit design that included, interiors reconfiguration, structured telecommunications design, fire alarm and fire suppression systems reconfiguration, illumination and A/C re-distribution and furniture selection. The building program included office space, cafeteria, day-care center, a shared central library, a computer center, a laboratory, collaborative areas and meeting rooms for over 1,000 employees. Also, an exterior building color scheme was developed, inspired by the adjacent Botanical Garden, which has become the brand identity of the Environmental Agencies.
